Graded Card Slab Dimensions: PSA, BGS, CGC, SGC & TAG Fit Guide

Every grading company uses its own slab footprint. Here is how to verify fit before you order protection, and why a physical sample beats any dimension table.

Graded card slabs look similar at a glance, but PSA, BGS, CGC, SGC and TAG holders each have their own footprint, edge geometry and label structure. A protector that is “universal” on paper can be loose on one slab and too tight on another. This guide explains what actually matters for fit, and the verification workflow we use on every project.

Why slab fit is not one-size-fits-all

Three things define whether protection fits correctly:

  • External footprint — the overall width, height and depth of the holder. This is what most dimension tables show.
  • Edge geometry — corners, radius and seam position. A protector sized to the outer footprint can still rock or pinch if edges differ.
  • Label structure — single-grade vs sub-grade labels sit at different heights. Protect clear covers can rub against a raised label area.

Published holder dimensions are a useful starting point, but production runs vary between grading companies and even between batches. That is why every TOP project verifies fit against the actual slab version before volume production.

Reference slab footprints

HolderReference exteriorNotes
PSA standard≈ 140 × 83 mm (5.5 × 3.25 in)Single-grade label; most common slab format
BGS≈ 140 × 83 mm (5.5 × 3.25 in)Sub-grade label pocket sits higher than single-grade holders
CGC (trading cards)≈ 140 × 83 mm (5.5 × 3.25 in)Slab-family footprint; check sealing structure
SGCCompact profileDistinctly smaller than PSA/BGS/CGC — PSA-style protectors typically do not fit
TAGStandard card window (63.5 × 88.9 mm)Newer holder family; verify against a physical sample

How TOP verifies fit

  1. Dimension mapping — we start from the holder’s published footprint and your stated slab version.
  2. Prototype fit test — the sample is physically fitted against your real slabs; clearance is recorded per batch.
  3. Sign-off before tooling — T1 samples are approved by you before custom molds or volume runs begin.

See the PSA, BGS, CGC, SGC and TAG compatibility guides for product-specific notes, or send us your slab version and we will confirm the right fit for your order.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

PSA standard holders are approximately 140 x 83 mm (5.5 x 3.25 in). BGS and CGC are similar in footprint but differ in edge geometry and label height.
No. SGC has a distinctly smaller footprint, so PSA-style protectors typically do not fit. Always verify SGC fit with a physical sample.
No. Edge geometry, corner radius and label structure vary between grading companies and batches. A physical fit test on your exact slab version is the only reliable check.
We start from the holder's published footprint, then run a prototype fit test against your stated slab version and keep the approved sample as the QC reference.
