Step 1: Define Your Product Specification First

The single biggest sourcing mistake is contacting suppliers before the product spec is defined. Before you reach out, write down:

  • Target slabs — PSA, BGS, CGC, SGC or TAG, and whether you need multi-slab sleeves.
  • Material — TPU (flexible protection), silicone (soft grip), acrylic (rigid display frame) or metal (premium edges).
  • Key dimensions — outer dimensions, wall thickness, opening style (top-load, side-load), clearance.
  • Surface — crystal clear, matte, frosted, colored, or with printed graphics.

  • Molders — own the injection molds and production lines. Best for TPU and silicone products with medium-to-large volumes.
  • Traders — resell products sourced from factories. Useful for one-off purchases, but you lose direct control of QC and customization lead times.

Ask for the factory’s own molding equipment rather than outsourced production. If the answer is “we have partners”, ask who performs dimensional QC and how much of the work is subcontracted.

Step 3: Sample Before You Commit

Samples are the cheapest insurance in this category. A transparent TPU protector that looks right in a photo can still have visible flow lines, uneven wall thickness or a poor fit on the slab corner. Always request:
